Advanced Organising Skills - Delegate Development
This course is funded and supported by The Union Education Foundation (TUEF), an education trust of the ACTU, which works in partnership with the Organising Centre to deliver accredited qualifications.
WHO IS IT FOR?
This course is designed for organisers who want to find out more about how adults learn and develop their training and mentoring skills. Recent research has indicated that delegates and activists are far more likely to become active if they are followed up after formal training. The course is suitable for either organisers or lead organisers who are looking to provide learning opportunities for their key delegates and activists. Participants should have completed Fundamentals of Organising and preferably Skills of Organising prior to undertaking this course.
AIMS

To understand the relationship between formal training and learning at work.

To understand how adults learn and identify learning opportunities.

To be able to conduct informal training sessions for your delegates and activists like lunch and learn sessions and group reflection activities.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On completion of this course, participants will be able to:

Understand the principles of adult learning;

Know how to use these principles in developing their key delegates and activists;

Develop ways of ensuring formal training is reinforced to promote activism;

Know how to organise and deliver an informal training session;

Identify opportunities in union bargaining and campaigning activities that promote learning at work;

Encourage delgates to look for learning opportunities for their own members that will strengthen the union.

COURSE DURATION
Four Days (split)
The Advanced Organising Skills – Delegate Development course is delivered in two two day stages, with a delegate development project being carried out in between the two stages.
