ME Bank revolutionises its Term Deposits
ME Bank revolutionises its Term Deposits ME Bank has expanded its preferential Super Member product range to include Super Members Term Deposits (SMTD). SMTD is a Term Deposit with a bonus interest rate of up to 0.25% p.a. for members of ME Bank’s participating super funds and unions. For example, the three month term is currently 6.15% p.a. for members of participating super funds and unions, whereas the Standard Term Deposit rate, available to the general public, is 5.90% p.a.

The opening balance for any term is now only $1,000. Added to this benefit, you can now choose the term that suits you from one month to 24 months. If your term is more than twelve months you can choose to either have your annual interest added to the principal or have it paid to a nominated account.

Best yet, you can apply online. If you’re already an ME Bank customer you can apply for a Super Members Term Deposit Account or change your maturity instructions over the phone. This facility is available for single account holder accounts only.

ME Bank’s participating super fund and union members already earn a discount on their home loan with Super Members Home Loans.

The recent launch of this preferential deposit product for super fund and union members coincided with the launch of ME Bank’s national brand advertising campaign, which reaffirms the Bank’s alliance with the union and industry super fund movements.

For more information about our range of term deposit rates for super members call 1300 309 374 or visit http://www.mebank.com.au

Interest rates are current as at Monday 06/07/2010 and subject to change. The Super Members Term Deposit interest rates are up to 0.25% p.a. more than the interest rates for an ME Bank Standard Term Deposit. You will get the interest rate that applies to your deposit on the day your application is received. Rates are applicable for amounts of $1,000 to $500,000. For rates above $500,000 contact ME Bank on 1300 309 374. Fees and charges may apply. Terms and conditions available on request. This is general information only and you should consider if this product is appropriate for you. See mebank.com.au for eligible super funds and unions. Members Equity Bank Pty Ltd ABN 56 070 887 679.

New ACTU President Gerardine (Ged) Kearney takes office
New ACTU President Geraldine (Ged) Kearney takes office Ms Kearney replaces Sharan Burrow, who last week was elected General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation.

Ms Kearney has been a member of the ACTU Executive since April 2008, when she was elected Federal Secretary of the Australian Nursing Federation.

ACTU Secretary Jeff Lawrence said he looked forward to working with Ms Kearney to advance the union movement’s agenda in the lead-up to the federal election later this year.

"Everyone at the ACTU welcomes Ged aboard to continue the work that is well underway to prevent a return to WorkChoices under Tony Abbott and to deliver on our agenda to improve the lives of working Australians and their families," Mr Lawrence said.

Ms Kearney said she was honoured to be entrusted with such an important role.

"I am committed to representing the interests of working Australians and to making sure their voices are heard in public debates over our nation’s future," she said.

"I intend to work with all unions, big and small, to put our agenda into action, grow the movement and achieve positive change for workers and their families."
